Carbondale, IL – On Thursday, June 27, 2024 the Carbondale Elementary School District #95 Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of longtime district educator, Shetara Reed, as the Lewis Elementary School Assistant Principal.
Originally from Hoffman Estates, IL, Reed is a dedicated wife, mother of six, and proud educator of Carbondale Elementary School District #95. After relocating to Carbondale in 2005, Reed pursued her Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education. Later, she obtained her Master's in Curriculum and Instruction and is currently pursuing a second Master's degree in higher education at SIUC.
Throughout her tenure as a second-grade teacher, Reed has been deeply involved in various leadership roles and initiatives. Notably, she has served as a LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) Local Certified Facilitator, where she has trained educators in evidence-based literacy instruction.
As a long-time resident of the district, Reed is deeply invested in the success of CES District #95. With a dedication to fostering a culture of equity, cultural sensitivity, and inclusion within the school community, Reed believes in the importance of representation and strives to be a role model for students of color, demonstrating the potential for leadership within and beyond the classroom. She aims to ensure that every student has access to high-quality learning opportunities tailored to their individual needs. She is eager to collaborate with staff, parents, and community stakeholders to develop and implement initiatives that meet the unique needs of the diverse student population at Lewis Elementary.
