Carbondale, IL – On Thursday, June 27, 2024 the Carbondale Elementary School District #95 Board of Education unanimously voted to appoint Ericka Weston, a longtime educator of the district, as the new Assistant Principal of Parrish Elementary School.
Weston, a loving mother of three, was born and raised in Mound City, IL. She pursued her lifelong passion for education at Southern Illinois University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. She began her career with CES #95 as a pre-k paraprofessional and later served as a kindergarten teacher. Recently, Weston completed her Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration from McKendree University.
Weston's commitment to student success and fostering a collaborative learning environment is evident in her active involvement in various educational initiatives. She has been a leader in student support committees and served as the coordinator for Parrish School's after-school program. Her dedication to the community is further demonstrated by her contributions to youth education at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. Weston's firm belief in professional growth is reinforced by her attendance at several leadership conferences, being awarded a scholarship by the Illinois Principal Association, and her recent induction into the Phi Kappa Phi Education Honor Society.
Weston's leadership philosophy, which emphasizes community engagement, continuous improvement, and leading by example, provides insight into her approach and goals as the new Assistant Principal at Parrish Elementary. Weston is committed to supporting a culturally responsive education environment at Parrish School where all students feel valued and respected.
